Most garage door manufacturers recommend installing a strut on garage doors which are greater than 12 feet broad. They also advise installing a strut on almost any door that is operated by means of a garage door opener. Sometimes, however, doors beneath 12 feet broad develop a bow at the upper section. Doors without openers don’t have any brace preventing warping and swelling at the peak of the section. Door openers which attach to doors tug the upper center of the highest section, causing the middle of this section to bow over time. Garage door struts are available in home-improvement centers to repair your bowed door & garage door repair in Albuquerque New Mexico for better management.
Measure the diameter of your doorway using a tape measure. Purchase four strut clips if you’ve got a wood door or 2 strut clips per stile for steel doors. Stiles will be the metal braces which run from the very top towards the bottom of a doorway section.
Pull back on the emergency disconnect rope in the door to disconnect the door from the opener. Remove the screws or nuts securing the bottom of the highest roller mount on a top section of this Garage door using a socket wrench or drill with socket adapter. Set the hole on one end of the strut above the threaded end of the bolt securing the mount while the helper holds the opposite end, even if an own a wooden doorway. If you’ve got a steel door, then align the hole together with the mounting hole to the mount. This puts the upper flange of the strut on the bottom border of the highest roller mount. Secure the end of the strut into the mount with the retaining screw or nut. Put a strut clip onto the lower strut flange on each end. Secure the strut clip into the doorway with a wood screw and a drill using a socket piece. If you’ve got a steel door, then use self-drilling faucet screws to secure the strut clip. Proceed to the middle of the strut and also attach a strut clip onto the upper and lower flanges of the strut. If the doorway is bowing external, ask your helper to visit the outside and press the door until you secure the middle of the strut.
